Democracy on the brink?

An activist discussion

How is it that nearly three decades of democracy can coexist with rampant inequality, rising poverty, unbridled corruption, brutal exploitation and the erosion of ordinary people’s living standards through the commodification and hollowing-out of public services like water, electricity, housing, health and transport?

What should we make of the brewing toxic mix of a politics that openly toys with authoritarianism, exclusion, hate and polarization?

As calls to defend South Africa’s democracy collide with those who argue that democracy has only strengthened the grip of the elite and powerful on our society, Tshisimani invites you to a discussion to ponder on possibilities for the future.
