Women’s Day Celebration & Jerusalema Challenge – 9 August 2020
The women held a socially distanced Women’s day celebration which reflected on the year passed but also allowed for a restructuring of the labour which supports their newly established community gardens. In a social auction the women exchanged second hand clothing, hampers and items for labor in the gardens, bidding for some items collected through donations to the celebration in the community. Overall the social auction led to the commitment of 400 hours of labour towards the gardens. Additionally to this the women performed and recorded a “Jerusalema Challenge Protest” in which they called out local ward councillors, government representatives and the state for covid corruption and the failures to assist them in feeding over 60 000 Bonteheuwel residents.
