Statement retraction

On 31 August 2022, Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education released a statement titled ‘Statement on Women’s Assembly Protest and Funding Cuts to Tshisimani’. This statement was carried on our website and social media platforms and has subsequently been removed. The statement referenced that the Bertha Foundation had cut funding to Tshisimani for the year 2022 onwards without indicating its reasons for doing so. The statement further suggested that the funds were pulled for dubious reasons. While Tshisimani disagreed with the reasons advanced, it was completely wrong and inappropriate to describe them as dubious and we categorically withdraw that statement and apologize unreservedly to the Bertha Foundation for any harm caused. The fact is that the Bertha Foundation has been the sole funder of Tshisimani since its inception. It is through its generous support that Tshisimani has been able to grow and deliver on its mandate. Our organisation owes a deep debt of gratitude to the Bertha Foundation for this seminal contribution.
